Mountain High Adventure 2018 - Week #4 photo page

On Monday we went out to Chimney Bluff State Park to check out the high bluffs along Lake Ontario. We went for a swim in the crystal clear waters and then launched the canoes and kayaks to paddle out along the shoreline to see the bluffs from the lake. Later, we went to the public beach in Sodus Point to swim again and make a picnic lunch.

On Tuesday we went for a long bike ride while looking for the many clues to the treasure hunt. We rode through the town of Greece and back into Charlotte making many stops to search out clues or just to play. We rode our bikes out to the end of the long pier at Charlotte beach and took the opportunity to try avoiding the waves that crashed against the side of the pier sending spray over the top where we were standing. We even stopped at the Charlotte Lighthouse before returning to base to climb the Climbing wall and play on the rope swing. eventually, we figured out the secret message from the clues and got our treasure. We finished off the day with fun on the 50 foot slip-n-slide.

On Wednesday we went geocaching at Durand Eastman Park. We hiked up and down the hills and around the golf holes looking for the hidden treasure boxes. Then we stopped for lunch while the rope course was set up and spent part of the afternoon playing on the Rope Bridge and the Cargo net and other components of the course. We finished up the day with a swim at Charlotte Beach.

Thursday morning, we packed our camping gear into the trailer, went shopping and drove to Robert Treman State Park near Ithaca, NY for our overnight trip.We stopped for lunch along the way and once at the park, set up camp and then went exploring. We drove to the top of the park and found a waterfall behind the old mill where we spent some time exploring before heading for the main gorge. We followed the walkway along a creek with high stone walls on either side into the main gorge and crossed a stone bridge. Suddenly the view opened up and we were at the top of Lucifer Falls. The water tumbled at least 100 feet down the rocks into the valley below. We followed the walkway down, down, down until we finally reached the bottom. It was getting late in the day so we hiked back up the hundreds of steps to the top and back to the old mill where we went in to see how it had once worked  Then it was back to camp and a decision had to be made. We decided to go swimming before dinner and walked over to the most awesome swimming area at the base of a big waterfall. The deep end of the swimming area even had a diving board and you could climb on the lower part of the waterfall. After swimming, we returned to camp, cooked and ate a good dinner and did the dishes. After some games and a campfire it was time for bed.

Friday morning, we ate, packed up and headed towards home. When we got back, there was still time left so we went to Charlotte Beach and some of us went swimming and some of us went fishing.
