Mountain High Adventure Camp 2015  -  Week #4 Photo Page

We spent most of Monday at Braddock Bay canoeing and kayaking. We had a late picnic lunch and headed to Charlotte Beach to do some swimming. Unfortunately, the beach was closed to swimmers so we built in the sand instead. We needed some water so dug deep into the sand until we found water and then built tunnels.

Tuesday was "Treasure Hunt" day. First we checked our bicycles to make sure they were safe to ride. Then we went over some safety rules for our 11 mile ride. Finally we got the first clue and looked on the map for the location of the second clue and started riding. The hunt took us to a playground, a cemetary, along a great bike trail next to and over the Genesee River, to a lighthouse and eventually to the beach. We took a break and had lunch and then went for a swim. Crashing into the waves and body surfing was fun. We even had time to fly a kite before riding towards home to get the last few clues and collecting our treasure.

On Wednesday, we tried the climbing wall and the tire swing before going to Ellison Park to do a short hike to the old trading post and down to the creek. Afterwards we played a round of disc golf (everyone did great) and then went to another park to do some geocaching and set up the low ropes course for some fun climbing.

Thursday morning we planned our menu, went shopping, packed the trailer and left for Allegany State Park for our overnight. We got there, set up camp and cooked up some lunch before playing. There was a creek running alongside the campsite, so we spent some time playing in the water, floating things down the small rapids and just having fun. Dinner was delicious tacos and corn on the cob. It must have been good because we didn't leave any behind. Later we had a campfire, then brushed our teath and went to bed. On Friday, we woke, made pancakes and sausage for breakfast and packed up the camp. We signed out and drove north to our next adventure. We turned onto a country road that went up, up, and up to the top of a very big hill. Eventually the road went from paved to dirt. At the top, we turned onto another dirt road and drove along the top of the ridge to the end where we found "Little Rock City". It was an area of huge boulders with many passages (streets) between them. We could walk over the tops of many, stepping or jumping carefully over the cracks and then going down below to explore the many twisting, turning passage ways that covered the top of the ridge. Finally it was time to rab a quick lunch at one of the picnic tables and head for home.
