Mountain High Adventure 2009 - Session #3 Photos

We got together on the first day of camp and planned what we wanted to eat for the week and then went shopping. Then we headed for the Adirondack Mountains for a week of adventure. We made a base camp at Wilmington Notch State Park, cooked dinner, had a campfire and went to bed. On day two, we went rock climbing on some big walls on Pitchoff Mountain. After everyone had many chances to climb the different routes up the rock wall, we packed up the gear and went to a late lunch at Cascade Lakes. Afterwards we did a quick walk up a "well marked, easy to follow" trail to the southwest shoulder of Baxter Mountain. After a stop at the taxidermy shop in Keene, we headed back to camp for relaxation, dinner, another campfire and bed. On day three, we were supposed to climb Cascade and Porter Mountains but the weather was threatening to be really wet and thunderous so we modified our plans and did some short day hikes and Geocaching under threatening skies and then spent some time in the village of Lake Placid. On day four, we packed up camp under beautiful clear sunny skies and headed for Cascade Mountain. We hiked all the way to the top for some great views of the Adirondacks and then some members of the group hiked over to the top of Porter Mountain. After hiking back down to the car, we headed west to Follensby Clear Pond to begin our canoe trip. It was beginning to get dark so we quickly searched out a good campsite and set up for the night. A delicious dinner, a small fire and it was off to bed. On day five, some of us were up and swimming before breakfast. Then everyone else joined us. After a good breakfast, we climbed into the canoes and kayak and headed north on our 10 mile, all day paddling adventure. It was unanimously decided that paddling the boats was a LOT more fun than carrying them over the portages but everyone did a great job and we paddled most of the day, swam a little, saw wildlife and had a full day. That evening, Harry paddled the big canoe out on the pond while the "girls' rode along to see the beautiful sunset. Alan stayed in camp and worked on building a great campfire for us to enjoy when we got back. We had the good fortune to have a family of loons living nearby our campsite so we could see them and listen to their haunting cries during the night and early in the morning. On the last day of camp we packed up, had a good, non cooking breakfast, and headed back home.
