More Photos from February Break Program

We met in the parking lot and then went back over the icy roads to the cabin. After a quick review of map reading and compass use, we took of to find the days treasure. We climbed up and slid down more icy hills. Sometimes we walked the trails and roads and sometimes we bushwhacked through the woods on a direct route. We finally found the last clue and had to find a way across the creek to the treasure. Then it was back to the creek to play some more. Afterwards we hiked back to the cabin for hot drinks and a quick snack, then off to the sledding hill while lunch was cooked. After a hot lunch, we loaded up and drove to Mendon Ponds to walk the bird trails and see if they would eat from our hands. There were lots and lots of birds. The Black Capped Chickadees and Tufted Titmouse would land on our hands and take the sunflower seeds. Other birds like Cardinals and Woodpeckers watched from the branches. We set up a stick method for finding direction on a sunny day near the cars. When it was time to go, we checked the stick shadows and learned that it really did work to point out North. Then we drove back to Webster Park, played a game of Zombie Tag and it was time to go home.
