Mountain High Adventure Camp 2015 Week 5 Photo Page

This week we had kids in camp from around Rochester, 3 boys from Korea and 3 brothers from Vermont at camp.

We started out the week with some canoeing and kayaking at Braddock Bay.. We played canoe hide and seek and then took time for lunch. After lunch we paddled out onto Lake Ontario and over to the sand beach where we did some swimming, swamped canoes and built with the sand until it was time to go home.

When we got back to the house, there was time to set up the slip-n-slide before parents arrived.

On Tuesday, we had a few minutes to play some games until everyone was there. Then we checked the bikes for safety and took off on our bicycle treasure hunt. Everyone did great on the bike ride and we eventually found ourselves at Charlotte Beach. We cooked up a picnic lunch and took a ride on the antique Merry-go-Round before continueing on our ride to find the final clues. Arriving back home, the kids worked hard to figure out the secret message and then we enjoyed our "Treasure". There was still some time to try walking on the stilts and play a couple of games before going home.

On Wednesday, we piled into the cars and went to the park for some "Geocaching", a different kind of treasure hunt using a GPS and coordinates. It involved climbing down and up hills and hiking  through the woods and crossing swamps on narrow shaky logs to find the treasures.

After geocaching, we had lunch and set up the "low ropes obstacle course".  There were different elements to the course like a cargo net, a rope bridge, a horizontal rope ladder and single ropes to walk on.

On Thursday we planned a menu, went shopping and packed the trailer for the overnight camping . When we arrived at the campground, it was lunch time so we quickly set up camp and had lunch. Afterwards, we piled back into the cars and went to Niagara Falls to the Aquarium. After wandering through the aquarium and seeing the seals show, we went to Fort Niagara for a swim. We were pleasantly surprised to find a water slide at the pool. After some sliding, it was back into the big pool for some "Marco Polo" fun. Then back to camp to cook up some tacos and corn on the cob and to try some of the delicious foods that our Korean kids had brought with them. Finally, some games, a beautiful sunset and a campfire before bed.

The kids did a great job cooking pancakes and sausages for breakfast. We took down camp, packed the trailer and went back into Niagara Falls, this time to check out the amazing waterfalls. We saw them from the top and then went down to the base of the American falls to get a different view and even a little wet. There was a great rock for climbing and everyone of course checked it out. Soon it was time to drive home and the week of camp came to an end.
